TATA IPL 26 – Match 24 Report: PBKS won by 7 wickets (with 21 balls remaining)Mumbai Indians with analysis of pre match prediction Date: April 16, 2026  Venue: Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai

Punjab Kings produced a clinical, high-octane performance to crush Mumbai Indians at their own fortress. PBKS chased down 196 with ridiculous ease, finishing on 198/3 in just 16.3 overs and extending their unbeaten run in IPL 2026. It was a statement victory that propelled Shreyas Iyer’s men to the top of the points table while leaving MI reeling after a fourth straight defeat.

Toss & Match Flow

PBKS won the toss and elected to bowl first – a masterstroke on a pitch that offered true bounce and short boundaries but still favoured the chasing side under lights.

Mumbai Indians Innings (195/6 in 20 overs)

MI got off to a horror start. Arshdeep Singh struck twice in the space of two deliveries in the 2nd over, sending back Ryan Rickelton (2) and Suryakumar Yadav for a golden duck. Quinton de Kock then took charge with a sensational unbeaten 112 off just 60 balls (8 fours, 7 sixes, SR 186.66), anchoring the innings brilliantly. Naman Dhir chipped in with a rapid 50, and Hardik Pandya (14) and Tilak Varma (8) tried to accelerate, but the damage from the top-order collapse was too much to overcome.

Key bowling highlight: Arshdeep Singh was exceptional – 4 overs, 22 runs, 3 wickets. His early breakthroughs set the tone and earned him Player of the Match. Marco Jansen (1/30) and Shashank Singh (1/19) provided solid support, while the rest of the attack leaked runs on a belter.

Punjab Kings Chase (198/3 in 16.3 overs)

The chase was never in doubt. Priyansh Arya (15) and Prabhsimran Singh gave PBKS a flying powerplay. After two early wickets fell to Allah Ghazanfar (2/31), skipper Shreyas Iyer joined Prabhsimran for a destructive 139-run stand that completely dismantled MI’s bowling attack.

- Prabhsimran Singh – 80 off 39 balls (11 fours, 2 sixes, SR 205.12) – sheer carnage

- Shreyas Iyer – 66 off 35 balls (5 fours, 4 sixes, SR 188.57) – calm authority mixed with power

Marcus Stoinis walked in and sealed the deal with a boundary in the 17th over. Jasprit Bumrah (0/41) and the rest of the MI attack had no answers as PBKS cruised home with more than three overs to spare.

Post-Match Table Snapshot

- PBKS→ 4 wins, 0 losses, 1 NR (still the only unbeaten side and now No. 1 on the table)

- MI → 1 win, 4 losses (sliding further down after yet another home defeat)

Match Predicted

Analysis of the Early Match Prediction

The pre-match prediction was spot-on and, in many ways, understated just how dominant PBKS would be.

It correctly identified:

- PBKS’s superior momentum and batting depth (Prabhsimran’s explosive opening, Iyer’s middle-order mastery, and the finishing punch from Stoinis – exactly as highlighted).

- MI’s vulnerabilities without Rohit Sharma (hamstring niggle confirmed; top order collapsed early).

- The high-scoring nature of Wankhede and PBKS’s edge in balance and confidence.

The prediction said PBKS would “probably edge this one and extend their unbeaten run” on a run-fest pitch. In reality, they didn’t just edge it – they demolished the target in 16.3 overs with seven wickets in hand. The only minor difference was that Arshdeep Singh (3/22) stole the show with the new ball instead of Chahal troubling the middle order, but every other big call (PBKS batting firepower, MI’s bowling leaks, home advantage not being enough) played out perfectly.

Verdict on the prediction: 9.5/10. It nailed the winner, the key reasons, and the likely script. Punjab Kings are the team to beat right now – exactly as the preview suggested.
