Zimbabwe Shock Bangladesh in Low-Scoring Thriller at Harare

Zimbabwe pulled off a cracking upset at Harare Sports Club, defending a paltry 141 to beat Bangladesh by 25 runs in a proper low-scoring scrap.

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bowl first, and it paid off early as young quick Nahid Rana ripped through the Zimbabwe batting with a brilliant six-wicket haul (6/21). The hosts were bowled out for just 141 in a little over 36 overs, though tail-ender Newman Nyamhuri hung around for a handy 33.

Chasing a modest total, Bangladesh never got going on a tricky surface and folded to 116 all out in 33.1 overs. Richard Ngarava led a disciplined Zimbabwe attack that picked up wickets at regular intervals and gave the visitors no chance to build any momentum. Nurul Hasan top-scored with 31, but it wasn't nearly enough.

Nyamhuri picked up the Player of the Match award for his all-round contribution. Fresh off a Test win, Zimbabwe now lead the ODI series 1-0 - a thoroughly impressive result for the Chevrons against a Bangladesh side many fancied to be stronger.

The second ODI comes up on Thursday, and on this evidence, it should be another cracker.
