Tuesday 14 July in Dallas brings two of Europe's heavyweights face to face, with a place in the World Cup final up for grabs. Both sides have impressed on their way here, and this looks set to be a proper tactical battle between two teams brimming with quality.

How France got here

France bring their usual mix of power, pace and experience. Kylian Mbappé has been electric throughout, leading the line with goals and assists and sitting right up there with Messi in the Golden Boot race. His searing pace on the counter can unlock a defence in the blink of an eye.

In midfield, Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga give them control and composure in the engine room, while Ousmane Dembélé and others offer width and options in attack. At the back, Dayot Upamecano and William Saliba make them a tough nut to crack, even if they've had the odd nervy moment along the way. When their structure is right, France are dangerous on the break and hard to break down.

How Spain got here

Spain have produced some genuinely lovely football, built on their trademark possession, quick passing and high press. Lamine Yamal has been one of the standout players of the whole tournament — the young Barcelona forward has looked full of confidence, running at defenders and creating chance after chance. He already looks like a genuine superstar in the making.

Pedri and Rodri (fitness permitting) give them control through the middle, while Nico Williams brings pace and directness out wide. They've got clinical finishers up top, and their defence has generally held firm. Spain can dominate matches through sheer possession, though they can be caught out if teams hit them quickly on the transition.

The verdict

This is about as even a contest as you'll find between two excellent sides. France have the greater firepower and that big-match mentality built from past tournaments, with Mbappé more than capable of deciding things on his own. Spain, though, play with real style and maturity — Yamal and the young talent around him make them thrilling and hard to predict.

On balance, France look the slight favourites — maybe 2-1, or via extra time. They tend to have that extra bit of knockout know-how when the pressure's really on. That said, Spain are more than good enough to win this outright, especially if they take control of midfield.

Either way, expect a cracker, with no shortage of quality on display. May the best team go through.
