New Chandigarh, June 8, 2026 — In a commanding performance that underlined their supremacy in home conditions, India thrashed Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs in the one-off Test at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. This victory not only sealed a emphatic 1-0 series win but also marked India's biggest-ever margin of victory in Test cricket history, surpassing their previous record of an innings and 272 runs against West Indies in Rajkot in 2018.

India, under stand-in captain Shubman Gill, won the toss and elected to bat first on what appeared to be a benign surface. The hosts piled on a massive 564 for 8 declared, showcasing depth and aggression across the batting order.

Dream Debut for Manav Suthar
The highlight of the match was the sensational debut of left-arm spinner Manav Suthar. The 23-year-old Rajasthan bowler spun India to victory with a match haul of 7/62, including a brilliant 6/33 in Afghanistan's first innings.

Suthar weaved a web around the Afghan batters, claiming five wickets on the third day morning to bundle them out for just 152. Rahmat Shah top-scored with 60, but the visitors had no answers to Suthar's guile and accuracy. He became only the fifth Indian bowler to take a fifer on Test debut.

Prasidh Krishna provided excellent support with 3 wickets, while Washington Sundar chipped in effectively.

Follow-On and Quick Finish
Enforcing the follow-on, India struck again as Afghanistan crumbled to 112 in their second innings. Washington Sundar starred with the ball this time, taking 4/36, complemented by Kuldeep Yadav's 3 wickets. Sediqullah Atal resisted briefly with 42, but the collapse was inevitable.

The match concluded inside three days, highlighting the gulf in class between the two sides in red-ball cricket.
