46 match ipl26 review and analysis of prematch prediction-GT won a nervy thriller by 4 wickets

Watch highlight

46 match ipl26 review and analysis of prematch prediction-GT won a nervy thriller by 4 wickets (with 1 ball to spare) at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Final Score:

- PBKS: 163/9 (20 overs) — Suryansh Shedge 57 (29), Marcus Stoinis 40 (31).

- GT: 167/6 (19.5 overs) — Sai Sudharsan 57 (41), Washington Sundar 40* (23).

Player of the Match: Jason Holder (GT) — 4/24, his second consecutive MoM.

Match Summary & Key Moments

GT won the toss and elected to field. The pitch offered steep bounce and seam movement early, favoring hard-length bowling — very different from the typical high-scoring Motera games predicted in many previews.

PBKS Innings:

GT's pace trio (Siraj, Rabada, Holder) dominated. PBKS slumped to 47/5 in the powerplay/middle overs. Siraj and Rabada struck early; Holder cleaned up key wickets including skipper Shreyas Iyer.

A fighting 79-run partnership between Suryansh Shedge (explosive 57 off 29, including a 27-run over off a spinner) and Stoinis gave PBKS a defendable total. Late cameos pushed them to 163, but it was below par on most days. Holder and Rabada (2/22) restricted the finish.

GT Chase:

GT started steadily but never accelerated aggressively on the tricky surface. Sai Sudharsan anchored with a measured 57. Contributions came from Jos Buttler (26 off 22) and others, but the scoring rate stayed close to the required rate.

They lost wickets at key times (including Sudharsan and Tewatia), leaving 11 needed off the last over. Washington Sundar kept calm, and a boundary + a scooped six off a full toss in the final over sealed it dramatically.

Match Predicted

How It Compared to Pre-Match Expectations

My preview was spot-on in many ways:

- High-scoring prediction didn't fully materialize due to the seaming/bouncy pitch (more bowler-friendly than usual).

- Dew was mentioned but the surface still assisted pacers throughout.

- Home advantage for GT + strong pace attack (Rabada, Siraj, Holder) proved decisive, contrary to PBKS being slight favorites.

- PBKS' batting firepower was tested and partially restricted early, though their depth showed in recovery.

- Close contest as expected — it was a thriller, though GT won more comfortably in execution than the final margin suggests.

GT capitalized perfectly on conditions and extended their winning streak to three. PBKS suffered back-to-back losses but stayed atop the table (still with 13 points from 9 games, strong NRR). GT moved to 12 points from 10 games.

 Standout Performances

- Jason Holder — Outstanding bowling (4 wickets including Iyer & Stoinis); Test-match lengths worked perfectly.

- Sai Sudharsan — Calm, high-quality anchor.

- Suryansh Shedge — Impressive counter-attacking knock; showed real potential.

- Washington Sundar — Finished the chase with composure.

- GT pacers overall (Siraj 2/28, Rabada 2/22) set the tone.

This was a classic "GT-style" win: bowl first, restrict with pace, chase smartly without panic. PBKS will rue the early collapse but showed resilience. Both teams remain playoff contenders in a tight table.
