28th Match Result: KKR vs RR, IPL 2026 – (19 April 2026, Eden Gardens, Kolkata) with analyse of pre match prediction.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) won the toss and elected to bat first.

RR: 155/9 in 20 overs

KKR: 161/6 in 19.4 overs (target 156)

KKR won by 4 wickets (with 2 balls remaining).

This was KKR’s first win of the season (they were 0-5-1 before this). Player of the Match: Varun Chakravarthy (3/14 in 4 overs).

Quick Scorecard Highlights

RR Innings (155/9)

- Explosive start: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi 46 (28) + Yashasvi Jaiswal 39 (29) → 81/1 in 8.4 overs (PowerPlay: 63/0).

- Sudden collapse: Middle order crumbled against spin (lost 8 wickets for 74 runs after the 81-run opening stand).

- Key contributions: Shimron Hetmyer 15, Riyan Parag 12, Ravindra Jadeja 9.

-KKR bowling: Varun Chakravarthy 3/14 (broke the opening stand, stumped Jurel, bowled Parag), Sunil Narine 2/26, Kartik Tyagi 3/22 (death-over strikes). Pace was expensive but spinners dominated the middle overs.

KKR Chase (161/6)

- Disaster PowerPlay: Tim Seifert 0, Ajinkya Rahane 0 → 5/2 in 1.2 overs.

- Middle recovery: Cameron Green 27 (13), Rovman Powell 23 (20).

- Heroic finish: Rinku Singh 53(34) + Anukul Roy 29 (16) → unbroken 76-run 7th-wicket stand that sealed the game. Rinku hit the winning six off Brijesh Sharma in the 19.4th over.

- RR bowling: Jadeja 2 wickets (miserly), Archer 1/35; spinners kept it tight but couldn’t close out the death.

Analysis of my Pre-Match Prediction

my preview was very well-researched and spot-on in several areas, but the final outcome flipped because of two big swings that my analysis itself flagged as possible (just low-probability).

What the preview got RIGHT

- RR’s top order firepower: Sooryavanshi (46) and Jaiswal (39) did exactly what I predicted — they “took the attack apart” in the PowerPlay and raced to 81/1.

- KKR’s structural issues: Poor PowerPlay batting (lost 2 early for 5 runs) and pace fragility were visible.

- Pitch & conditions: Eden Gardens played batting-friendly but assisted spinners later — exactly as described. RR posted only 155 (I said “restrict below 170” would give KKR a chance).

- Toss impact: RR batted first (as many expected), but the chase stayed competitive.

- Key player calls: I highlighted Varun’s historical record vs RR and Narine’s control — they combined for 5 wickets and dictated the middle overs. I also noted Rinku’s out-of-touch form… he turned up big time today.

Where it didn’t pan out (and why the upset happened)

- RR’s “clear favourites” tag (55-60%): The preview correctly called their recent batting fragility (the SRH collapse). That vulnerability repeated — they went from 81/0 to 155/9. The middle-lower order simply couldn’t accelerate against Varun + Narine.

- KKR’s “miracle first win” path: I said if their spinners dominate and Green/Raghuvanshi/Rinku fire, home crowd could spark it. That’s exactly what happened — except Raghuvanshi (10) and Green (27) were decent, while Rinku + Anukul produced a match-winning partnership that my preview didn’t fully anticipate (I had them as weaker links).

- RR’s depth: I praised their balanced attack, but the death bowling (especially the final over) leaked the crucial runs. KKR’s inexperienced pacers actually held their nerve better than expected.

Match Predicted

Overall verdict on the prediction:

It was a high-quality, data-backed preview (standings, form, head-to-head, pitch report, player form — all accurate). The only miss was under-estimating how much KKR’s spinners + Rinku’s redemption arc could swing a 155 chase at Eden Gardens. RR were still the better team on paper, but cricket (especially T20) loves these home-ground, low-total chases.

KKR finally off the mark — huge relief for the home fans! RR drop points but still stay strong in the top half.
