De Kock’s Career-Best 115 – All Thanks to Brevis’ Borrowed Bat
Quinton de Kock turned up for South Africa’s T20I against West Indies at the Wanderers without his own bats – left them back at the hotel.
With no choice, the 35-year-old took Dewald Brevis’ bat and proceeded to hammer an unbeaten 115 off just 49 balls (6 fours, 10 sixes). His fireworks helped chase down 192 with seven wickets and plenty of balls to spare, clinching a 2-0 series win.
After the game he gave the bat straight back to Brevis.
“The weight felt off for me,” de Kock said. “It’s made for youngsters who swing really hard. If my own bats turn up for the next one, I’ll be using them. Honestly, I didn’t enjoy batting with it that much.”
Brevis gets his lucky willow returned – plus bragging rights that his bat just produced a T20I century against the Windies.
